The Essex River, 40 miles north of Boston, meanders among salt marshes and storied islands before emptying into the Atlantic Ocean. Our double-hulled tour boat, River Queen I, carried us gently through the shallow estuarine water, avoiding the hidden sand bars, before returning home an hour-and-half later. As it snuggled up to the dock, I was able to photograph River Queen II, it’s idle sister vessel. The sun was fickle throughout the cruise, but luckily the sky remained bright, allowing me to take some good pictures.
