By the time I was ready to go home, the workmen were, too. They had finished a day’s work adding brick facing to this new, luxury apartment building. Once the exterior is finished and fully sealed against the weather, they will concentrate on the interior. The man changing into street clothes is the boss. All in all, the crew were fairly tolerant of my picture-taking. My challenge and temptation, as photographer, was the scaffolding: how to convey a sense of the scale and rhythm of this massive temporary structure. I confess I got carried away trying to get the right shot, and ended up with a passel of rejects.
